Cardio Pulmonary Care

Cardio Pulmonary Care is provided by skilled nursing care and medical treatments to assist in the prevention of complications and improve the rehabilitation of patients with cardiac conditions. Patients post open-heart surgery patients are monitored closely for incision healing and potential cardiac complications. The multidisciplinary team provides a specially designed program for cardiac care and work together to return the patient to the highest possible functional capacity. Neurological Disease Care: The multidisciplinary team focus is to help patients recover the mental and/or physical functioning affected by a neurological condition. Patients who have suffered strokes, paralysis, loss of memory, mobility or speech and the inability to eat receive Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies through a comprehensive individualized plan of treatment.

Dialysis

The Outpatient Dialysis Center at St. Catherine of Siena of Siena Medical Center provides comprehensive services six days a week, from 5:00 AM to midnight. Under the leadership of Ilamathi Ekambaram, MD, FACP, FASN, Medical Director of Renal Services and Chairman for the Section of Nephrology, the center offers 15 chairs and staff rotate on four shift schedules. The center is equipped for single use dialysis and an isolation room to accommodate Hepatitis Positive B Antigen patients—only unit of its kind in Suffolk County. The center is affiliated with nine major transplant centers for kidney, pancreas, liver and heart.

Neurological Disease Care

Neurological Rehabilitation

Neurological Rehabilitation is provided by Occupational and Physical Therapists together with Speech-Language pathologists working to maximize the function of patients with stroke or other brain injuries. Some of the neurogenic disorders treated are Multiple Sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease. Weekly team meetings facilitate coordination of treatment goals and help to maximize outcomes.

Orthopedic Rehabilitation

Orthopedic Rehabilitation is provided for the patients with orthopedic, arthritic, or athletic injury problems. Therapists provide evaluation and treatment of soft tissue injuries to the spine and peripheral joints; post-surgical rehabilitation of total joint replacements and fractures utilizing state of the art techniques and equipment; patient education and home exercise programs. Manual therapy, mechanical treatments and various modalities are also available.

Short & Long Term Rehabilitation

The Rehabilitation Department is comprised of 30 professional staff members practicing in three disciplines: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology. The vast amount of experience within their discipline allows them to offer a wide range of services and programs. Our Physical Therapists focus their treatment on restoring gross motor skills like walking, stair negotiation, transfer training, and restoring functional strength and range of motion to the extremities. Occupational Therapists gear their treatment towards activities of daily living which include bed mobility, bathing, grooming, household activities, and dressing. Speech Language Pathologists work with patients who have difficulty with language, swallowing issues, and cognitive impairments. The Rehabilitation Department is open 7 days a week and offers our Sub-Acute patients the opportunity to receive the amount of therapy needed to insure a safe return home.

Our Rehabilitation Gym contains a wide variety of specialized equipment to assist our therapists in meeting a patient’s therapeutic needs. The therapists are experienced in working with a variety of patients and are able to individualize treatment programs for all patients independent of their age and diagnosis. Our programs are all designed to assist our Sub-Acute Rehab patients in getting home quickly and safely and our long-term residents to remain active and healthy.

Wound Care

Our multidisciplinary team, which includes a Certified Registered Nurse Wound Care Specialist, is dedicated to the care of patients with surgical, pressure, and 
vascular wounds. Components of our Wound Care Program include:

  • Specialty dressings including wound vac therapy
  • Multidisciplinary wound rounds
  • Specialized mattresses
  • Pressure relieving cushions
  • Campus based Wound Care Clinic
