New Foundation Executive Director Appointed
Thomas E. McLaughlin, has been appointed Executive Director of the Foundation at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center. Prior to his new role, Mr. McLaughlin was an active member of the hospital’s Advisory Council and Golf Committee. He served as the Honorary Chairman for the 16th Annual Golf Classic, recently held at The Huntington Country Club on May 16, 2016.
Prior to his involvement with St. Catherine of Siena, Mr. McLaughlin was the president of a global medical communications firm that administered thousands of symposia for the Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins and other prominent hospitals, as well as a diverse portfolio of brand-advocacy programs for billion-dollar product lines and Fortune 500 pharmaceutical clients. Throughout his career he has developed strong client services skills, serving as liaison to hospital administration, regulatory bodies, pharmaceutical sales, marketing, legal and medical affairs.
Mr. McLaughlin was a scholar-athlete at Brown University but was recruited by the UCLA athletic department where he earned his bachelor’s degree, along with two Rose Bowl Championship rings as a quarterback on their football team.
A longstanding philanthropist, he has served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of OHEKA Castle for more than 18 years, raising funds for various endeavors that include awarding financial grants to young individuals pursuing education and training in the fine arts. Mr. McLaughlin has also contributed regularly to multiple charities and causes, including the Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect, the Foundation Fighting Blindness, LIVESTRONG, MADD, and the FBI Agents Association College Fund.
“I am extremely pleased to welcome Mr. McLaughlin to the family at St. Catherine of Siena as the Executive Director of the Foundation,” said St. Catherine’s Executive Vice President and CAO Paul J. Rowland. “The Foundation is an integral department at the medical center—its growth will enable us to further enhance the facilities and services offered on campus and in the surrounding communities.”
In his new role at St. Catherine of Siena, Mr. McLaughlin will foster new relationships with community partners and primarily secure funding for the medical center through the planning and implementation of fundraising initiatives.
“As a volunteer on the hospital’s Advisory Council I quickly came to admire the great strides the current administration made in women’s health, orthopedics and stroke care, and now look forward to playing an active role in the development of service lines that best serve our community needs,” said Mr. McLaughlin.
Mr. McLaughlin lives on the North Shore in Nissequogue, with his wife, Debra. An avid golfer, he squeezes in a 7:00 AM tee every Sunday with a regular foursome of time-strapped executives who play just fast enough to make the 10:30 AM Catholic Mass.
