SAVE THE DATE: Digestive Health & Nutrition Day 2016
Digestive health is a common concern for just about everyone—from a stomach ache to the harder to discuss and even more uncomfortable condition known as constipation. Digestive health and proper nutritional intake go hand and hand—therefore, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center will be hosting a free informational event.
The medical center’s Community Outreach Program will host Digestive Health and Nutrition Day on Saturday, March 12, 2015, from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, at its Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center, located at 52 Route 25A, Smithtown, New York.
The medical center’s Community Outreach will offer free blood pressure screenings and nutritional information from 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM, followed by two free seminars. General Surgeon Tara Martinez, DO, who specializes in minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery will lecture on the “Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment of Colorectal Cancer. Gastroenterologist Richard Feldstein, MD, will lecture on “Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Diverticulitis and Digestive Health. Free giveaways and light refreshments will be provided to participants.
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. Colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death among men and women in the US, but many colon cancers can be prevented with regular testing. If you are 50 or older, talk with your doctor about colon cancer screening.
