Tour St. Catherine's HBO Center on June 1st
Did you know that St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center has a dedicated HBO Center? That’s right, the Catholic Health Services Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing is located at St. Catherine of Siena.
In the medical world, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is often referred to as HBO. HBO Therapy is a treatment in which the patient breathes 100% pure oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber. The air pressure inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber is about two and a half times greater than the normal pressure in the atmosphere. This “hyperbaric” (or high pressure) dose of oxygen helps your blood carry more oxygen to your organs and tissues to promote wound healing. It also activates the white blood cells to fight infection.
HBO treatment is an outpatient procedure used in combination with other treatments. It is provided once daily, for approximately four to six weeks. One treatment takes about two hours and is quite comfortable for most patients.
The Center for HBO and Wound Healing at. Catherine will hold an Open House on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 12:00 PM. Community members are invited to tour the facility and learn all about the HBO process. Please RSVP to Stephanie Clausen at 914-610-6008.
The Center is located at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, 50 Route 25A, Smithtown, NY, Lower Level. The Center is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
